| Breaking News | | Saturday, October 28th, 2017: 2017 NL Platinum Arm Named
This past season Leonard Cunningham put on quite a show in the National League. In 27 starts he posted a 19-3 record for Pittsburgh to capture the 2017 Platinum Arm.
In 27 starts and 188.1 innings, Cunningham yielded 120 hits, holding the opposition to a .180 average. He chalked up 236 strikeouts and posted a 1.53 ERA.
This weekend Cunningham will be honored by the SION Baseball Writers Association at its annual awards dinner. |

Nicolas Rickel bent a little, but he didn't break against the Pirates. The Chicago (N) pitcher hurled a 3-hit 4-0 shutout in a fine performance, surrendering 7 walks and putting up 10 strikeouts.
"Nicolas is good at getting out of jams," his manager told reporters after the game. "He's almost more effective when he gets guys on base or gets behind in the count, because he uses your aggressiveness against you."
To date Rickel is 9-15 in 30 starts with a 3.37 ERA and has 196 strikeouts in 200.1 innings.

| Monday, September 4th, 2017: Chad Belknap to Miss 2 Weeks
After the end of today's game between Pittsburgh and New York (N), Chad Belknap skipped the clubhouse and headed straight for the doctor's office. After he was removed from the game as a precaution after running the bases, the Pirates had their worst fears confirmed when it turned out to be more serious. The second baseman will miss at least 2 weeks with a strained groin muscle.
Currently Belknap has 21 home runs and a .281 batting average.
