The Scarabs ran into a buzzsaw as Manuel Gutierrez cut them down to size 4-0 with a 4-hit shutout.
His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."
In the complete game whitewash the Sheldon hurler doled out no walks and registered 7 strikeouts.
In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Manuel goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be."
Gutierrez also got some praise from the Scottsdale manager.
"He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings."
This season-to-date Gutierrez has 10 wins and 6 losses and a 2.01 ERA. | | Friday, August 18th, 2017: Lazo Sharp, Whitewashes Squirrels David Lazo had the Paradise Squirrels dancing to his tune today with a sparkling 5-0 shutout performance for the Scottsdale Scarabs. He gave up 6 hits and collected no walks and 4 strikeouts.
Paradise hitters were bewildered throughout the game by his delivery.
The opposing manager said, "When you face a guy who hides the ball like he does, it takes a couple of at-bats to try to find his release point. We just never figured him out."
To this point in the season Lazo has 10 wins and 13 losses and a 3.59 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 58-72, .446 PCT | | Position in Division | 7th, 27.0 GB | | Record at home | 34-31, .523 PCT | | Record on the road | 24-41, .369 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 7-2, .778 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 21-22, .488 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 12-24, .333 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 46-48, .489 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 10-14, .417 PCT | | Record in May | 14-15, .483 PCT | | Record in June | 12-15, .444 PCT | | Record in July | 11-15, .423 PCT | | Record in August | 11-13, .458 PCT |
