The Sub League 2 presented its most recent Player of the Week Award to Irwindale Merlins first baseman Louis Pettyjohn.
"His numbers speak for themselves," a club publicist said. "He's been really seeing the ball well."
Indeed, Pettyjohn has. Last week he went 10 for 24, batted .417 with 1 home run and 5 RBIs.
Pettyjohn is hitting .246 this year with 12 home runs, 51 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He has 88 hits in 357 at-bats, 50 walks and a .344 on-base percentage. Pettyjohn has played in 94 games.

| Sunday, July 23rd, 2017: Pettyjohn Belts 5 Hits!
It was a good day for the Merlins at Irwindale Grounds as they clipped the Tacoma Rocks 13-3. It was tremendous day for Louis Pettyjohn, who went on quite a hitting spree with a 5 for 5 barrage.
The Irwindale first baseman told reporters after his big 5-hit performance, "I don't have any buzz words. I'm not 'dialed in' or 'in a zone,' as they say. As far as the hitting goes, I try to keep it simple. I try not to look into it too much. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then try to hit it. Today I picked up the spin very well."
L. Pettyjohn walked in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit a two-run double in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
This season Pettyjohn has banged out 82 hits in 334 at-bats for a .246 average with 11 home runs. He is getting on base at a .345 pace and his totals also include 48 RBIs and 40 runs scored.

 | Friday, June 23rd, 2017: Stradford Bewilders Merlins in Shutout
Eric Stradford was dynamite today and just blew Irwindale away in the 5-0 victory. The San Bernardino Sunshine starter had everything working as he hurled a 4-hit shutout over the Merlins, recording 6 strikeouts and 2 walks.
"He was pure nasty out there today. I don't think any team in the would've had a chance against what he was bringing," said the Irwindale skipper during his postgame press conference.
To date in 2017, Stradford sports a 6-8 mark with a 4.62 ERA in 16 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .276 batting average and has 32 strikeouts in 109 innings.
