Joseph Hartsock went on a season-long hitting spree against Sub League 1 pitchers and captured the Outstanding Hitter Award for 2017.
The Birmingham first baseman battered the opposition for 156 hits, 45 doubles, 1 triple, 13 home runs, 66 RBI and scored 78 runs. He hit .333 and posted a .408 on-base percentage.
For being named the SL1's top hitter, Hartsock will be honored at the SION Baseball Writers awards banquet this weekend.

| Saturday, September 23rd, 2017: SL1 Presents Top Pitcher Trophy
Hobert Brunson was the Birmingham stopper this season. When the team got on a bad roll, he was always there to put a stop to it. That's one of the reasons he was singled out as the 2017 Sub League 1 Outstanding Pitcher Award winner. His impressive 21-5 record and 2.41 ERA also figured heavily with the SION voters.
In his award-winning year the 26-year-old Counts star hurled 220.1 innings, tallied 169 strikeouts and 46 walks, limited hitters to a .203 batting average and posted a 2.41 ERA.
For his fine season the SION Baseball Writers Association will present him his trophy this weekend at its annual awards dinner.

| Friday, September 1st, 2017: Sub League 1 Names #1 Pitcher in August
August's top-rated pitcher was Hobert Brunson of Birmingham Counts. He demoralized Sub League 1 hitters the whole month with 6 wins and no losses and captured the Pitcher of the Month award.
In 6 starts Brunson limited opposing batters to a .191 batting average. He rang up 47 strikeouts in 51 innings of work, issued 12 walks and posted a 1.76 ERA.
To this point in the season, Brunson shows a 21-5 record, 26 starts, 212.1 innings, 164 strikeouts and a 2.42 ERA.
